He is absolutely good looking - with clear blue eyes which he may soon outgrow, dusty fur, brown ears, nose and paws, and a long straight tail. And part of the honey&gazelle Design Studio's induction programme for new employees, we prepared a small cubicle space for him in the next room, complete with kitten friendly toys. We got to admit that his presence in the office has successfully slowed down all operations this week. He has us all wrapped around his tail, and by all, I mean the resident cats too. Sushi is playful, part-whiney-part-independent, and maybe 300% crazy. As much as he adores his hand-me-down cat toys, courtesy of Trooper and Boba, he clearly loves playing with his long straight tail too. The resident cats are probably very confused with the scent of a new kitty, but we hope that in time to come, the two cats will adore Sushi as much as we adore him. And perhaps grow to enjoy each other's company in the future! Min: The last time I nursed a young animal is approximately 13 years ago. My family rescued Junior, my late black dog, when he was about 3 months old. He was our best friend and the best pet we ever had. After he passed away, my parents decided that they are done with the heartache and refused to keep another pet. I, on the other hand, have been looking for another furry companion to love. It has been a crazy journey since we made the decision to adopt Sushi and we cannot be more blessed to provide a home filled with care and love for this hyperactive kitty. Sushi is growing so well and I'm elated to see the amount of love and attention he is currently getting. I guess that fella is just making up for lost time, yea? So yes, there's a new kid in town, and I'm officially a proud catmom. Welcome to your new home, Sushi-Choy Chia! Jia: It has been close to three long years since I nursed and cared for a little kitten. Trooper was only 3 weeks old when we rescued him from a crazy man who wanted to cook him! He is now a fully grown spoilt crazy cat and one of the loves of my life. I had totally forgotten how tiny a kitten can be until Sushi showed up at our studio this week! And, let's cue all the past memories of baby Trooper. Combining my past memories and photos of baby Trooper and the now current state of baby Sushi, this week is a complete cuteness overload!
I have spent the last week in a super joyous mood because of a new kitty and my boyfriend's birthday. Kittens are just so so adorable and their tininess really entraps all your time and attention. Even my boyfriend is deeply enamoured with Sushi and we spent a whole Sunday afternoon at Min's place, just playing and spoiling the kitty rotten. Aw, Sushi, you are such a heart-stealer! - How has your week been? :) With Love, Min+Jia.

Min was away on her summer Japanese vacation and I don't really listen to music if I am working alone in the office. However, it was not quiet on the work front at all. Despite us hoping that the studio will be packed and in a proper orderly shape in September, it is delivery season and delivery season means one huge mess. Boxes filled with new products and papers are everywhere and it is killing me! We are working double-time to perfect the look of our Christmas and year-end goodies, which means a ton of emails and calls to our printers and sending back rejected goods. We are hoping for things to settle down quickly so that we can get our life and studio in order. A productive office is a neat office, but man, is it hard to upkeep! (Direct from Japan) Min: I spent the week in Kyushu and it has been amazing. Travelling to new places is always good fun. In light of the recent earthquake in Kumamoto and Mount Aso’s volcano eruption, many areas near Kumamoto were on high alert. This is my first encounter with a place that have just been devastated by a natural disaster and it is well… extremely heart-wrenching to say the least. Without a clue about the disaster, Google Maps led us right into the heart of the town hit by a volcano eruption. We drove around quietly as we tried to take in everything we saw - collapsed tombstones, empty onsens, crushed cars and houses, and roads filled with potholes. It was a lifeless town. Sigh, I have a heavy heart now… Jia: About a month ago, I wrote about my strange non-obsession with Pokemon Go, so I thought it was time for an update! I am still not very enthusiastic about it but because my boyfriend and friends are, I am somehow still playing the game ever so often and my level is increasing ever so steadily.
Case in point: my phone was drained of battery multiple times during our event - the weekend market at Millenia Walk. My friends and boyfriend would whisk my phone away and catch numerous Pokemon all while I was serving customers. It was a rather eye-opening experience, watching throngs of people run towards a certain direction to catch 'em all. Sometimes, my customers would pause while browsing art prints to catch a Pokemon that has spawned right there and then. As for me? I am still waiting patiently for Sun and Moon to launch in November to go totally obsessed again. - Are YOU obsessed with Pokemon Go? <3 Jia Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. We have completed a ton of projects in August and we are hoping for a peaceful month ahead to organise the studio and to do some strategic planning. The rush and madness of July and August has resulted in a very very very messy studio which is seriously making us feel unnerved and irritable. September is going to be a fun month, we can just feel it. We are going slow with events as we prepare for the Christmas and year-end collections + get started on newly inked projects. There is going to be a ton of deliveries and we really need to pack our workspace in preparation for an avalanche of new products, paper stocks, and office equipment. Phew, wish us strength and health as we get ready for the last quarter of the year! We may be looking for some help in October to December in all areas, so if you are interested, please introduce yourself, your area of expertise, and your expectations to us via email. Min: Happy birthday to me! Okay, my birthday is technically over but I'm just going to keep celebrating it. This week, Jia and I learned that we are able to eat and talk for 6 hours straight. It's amazing how we can still yak on for many hours despite seeing each other every single day and after knowing each other for 20 years. Aside from the good companionship, the scrumptious spread of food and tea selections was something we look forward to whenever we start missing our high tea sessions. Thanks to Jia and Jia's sister for the treat! You guys made my tummy a happy one! August started out really rough but I'm glad it ended really well. September, I'm ready for you! Jia: I have something to confess. For the past few weeks, I have not been diligently noting down all my must-dos and important deadlines/dates in my calendar, planner or List It Like You Mean It Notepad. I have just been so busy trying to survive August and its workload that I didn't bother to take the time to plan and schedule my life. Oh, what a terrible mistake!
I realised that I have become astonishingly disorganised and scatterbrained. My brain just can't keep up with the remembering of all the details of the things I need to do and people I need to meet. This will not do. I resolve to resume my habitual - or at least, pick up the habit again - routine of setting aside time in the mornings and weekends to plan my life. September and the rest of the year (and my life) will be orderly once more! - Round-up of August's Sunday Stickies: 7 August // 14 August // 21 August // 28 August - Is your September filled with exciting plans? Tell us about them! :) With Love, Min+Jia. Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Our last Sunday Stickies post must have confused many of you as we received emails and direct messages on Instagram asking after us. So sorry about that! In the intense heat during our event last Saturday, we made the wrong decision to continue drinking our barley tea that had obviously gone a little bad. It was sour but we drank the remaining few gulps without much hesitation to quench our thirst. It was all fine until Sunday evening... that was when all hell broke loose. In different corners of our tiny island, we were both down with food poisoning and muttering under our breaths about the cursed sour tea and our stupidity. So kids, here is a health tip: do not drink tea that has gone bad. Due to our illness, the studio was trudging along very slowly during the first few days of the week. Thankfully, we got better and work resumed as per normal! We are so relieved that August is coming to an end as that would mean the completion of a few major projects. If you have also been facing a rough month, hang in there with us! We are reaching September pretty soon! Min: Yay! I am another year older. Every year, I wish for the people I love to be filled with happiness and health because there is nothing more important to me than the wellbeing of those I love! As I looked back on my life, I hope that I brought joy to my parents, made them proud and those sort of things. And today, I realised how much I enjoyed my twenties with them. Conversations are now longer and more meaningful. I can’t wait to spend many more decades with my parents! This birthday is also the last one as a single, carefree woman and the last time that I can flash the girlfriend card for additional perks and presents! <3 What a year! Jia: Have you ever craved for food that you should absolutely not be eating after recovering from a bout of food poisoning? All I have been craving for is to sink my teeth into a lusciously hot buttery toast. I wake up and think "butter toast" and when I am having my usual meals, I too, think "butter toast". The thought of butter toast is haunting me and I am so annoyed that I have yet to fulfil my craving. Just a few more days of the usual no-nos to rest my stomach and digestive system. But for now: no chilli, no oil, no dairy, no life.

This week's Sunday Stickies is going to be a little different. Why? Because we are both down with food poisoning and are bedridden. Our sudden bout of illness isn't reflected in our stickies as we prepared our stickies on Saturday night while we were struck down on Sunday night. So, we are signing off early now. Talk to you soon! With Love, Min+Jia. |
