Art and craft was arguably my favourite subject in school. My art pouch had the craziest amount of things in it - glue sticks, liquid glue, fancy rulers, random markers, pencils, regular scissors, zigzag scissors, glitter tubes, coloured pens, stickers and the occasional pack of origami papers. I was the true-blue art and craft geek. I would go to school with only one textbook and a whole lot of art supplies. By 15, I had to choose a subject path - Arts or Science. I had zero interest in mathematics, science or whatever, and excelled only in art and design subjects. I was a terrible student. Needless to say, I chose Art as my major and I loved it! My art pouch was updated and upgraded because it was definitely cool to lug around an art toolbox. Goodbye zigzag scissors and hello fancy pen knives, fabric and acrylic paints. Art has been a huge part of my life and it has given me the confidence to express myself in the only way I know how. I hate to admit this but as I got older and busier with my previous jobs, art gradually lost its importance. Well, all that negativity is now water under the bridge because of honey&gazelle Design Studio! Yes, I am glad to have rediscovered my greatest love in life and I'm gonna hold onto art and design for dear life. Fun Ideas is the newest column to our blog where we will share creative how-tos, tips and tricks, as well as DIY projects, Without further ado, here are seven super simple and creative ways to spruce up any room and personalise items that you use in your daily life with honey&gazelle's Pretty Papers Pack: Mellow Motifs and Flashy Florals. Don't worry, you can also try out these projects with any kind of paper you have on hand! 1 // Frame Up Your Favourite Pretty Paper
This is definitely the easiest craft tutorial ever. All you need to do is to measure the size of your photo frame, cut the paper to size and frame. Easy peasy! Our Pretty Papers are double-sided, so if you are feeling lazy to cut another piece, simply turn it over and voila, a brand new art piece! Prep more in advance so you have more choices to match your mood! 2 // Frame Your Favourite Pretty Paper AND Use It As A Whiteboard Besides using Pretty Paper as an art print, you can easily turn the frame into a handy whiteboard. Frame up your desired Pretty Paper, grab a whiteboard marker and start scribbling! Use the whiteboard as a To-Do list or write your favourite quote on it. Your whiteboard has never looked prettier! I personally find that it is easier to clean a glass fronted frame than a frame with a plastic fronted protector.

Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually. A lot happened in our studio this week. One thing led to another and very soon, we will be moving out of our current studio and into a bigger space. This change has left us dizzy with excitement as we finally get a chance to design a studio that truly reflects us. The new studio has plenty of indoor and outdoor space that can accommodate our growing company. A proper outdoor area means that we can work on building bigger props for our event styling projects with a lot more ease. We are currently sorting out the electrical, lighting and ventilation issues, making sure that we get sufficient natural lighting and good air flow. There will also be more storage for our stocks, props and art supplies. Yay to a neater workspace! The best part of the new studio is the inclusion of Jia's kitty cats! The studio is pet friendly and we can't wait to have the kitties join us while we work. There will also be a huge pantry and Min is getting too excited about stocking it with chips while Jia has plans to cook healthier food... We'll see who wins. In other news, we released a whole lot of goodies this week and we are so glad to get them out into the world! 2016 seems to be passing so quickly and the next thing you know, we would probably be working on our Christmas collection again! Min: This has been another week of changes, with a lot of big and heavy decisions to make. No big decisions should be made after lunch/dinner because food coma is real. Jia and I bought a new printer after lunch and we spaced out when the promoter was trying to explain the technical specs to us. No idea if our printer is the best deal. Haha, food coma is destroying us and yet I can't stop eating. My love for food led me to over prepare and over pack for Shakespeare in the Park last evening. The thought of a picnic made me so excited and I went crazy preparing for it. Romeo and Juliet turned out to be pretty good except that I can't get over the cast's modern dressing. I don't know if this will truly be their (SRT) last year running Shakespeare in the Park but I hope that Singaporeans will get more opportunities like this to enjoy plays in the future. Jia: I started this week super annoyed. Our local postal service broke my zen mode on Monday with really annoying news which totally spoilt my day. On hindsight, I think I probably reacted too aggressively because of my incredibly short fuse with terrible customer service and my sharp tongue. Ever since (probably) 5 years ago, I made a mental note to myself to be a better and more loving person daily, but Monday's incident proved that I am pretty far away from my goal. Boo, me. I must do better! Kindness begets kindness. This week, I also learnt that it is pretty difficult to type when one has a bruised pinky finger. My boyfriend is always saying that I have terrible to non-existent spatial awareness which is why I am always getting into the weirdest accidents. Well, I think I either pulled the muscle in my pinky finger or I jammed it into a wall while I was sleeping (it happens). The result is the inability to move my pinky without an aching pain. In classic Singaporean lingo - also known as Singlish - seriously, how suay can I get!? -
Sending our love to all mummies out there and may you have a blessed Mother's Day! With Love, Min+Jia. The newest releases by the honey&gazelle Design Studio are new concepts that we have been working on for a long time, so you can just imagine our excitement (and anxiety) about launching them! Do you remember playing the hide and seek game, I Spy, with your family members or friends when you were young? It usually starts with a sentence like this, "I spy with my little eye..." and then depending on where you were, you may have asked your friends to spot a red truck or a cute little sparrow. We are sentimental fools and small kids at heart, thus we decided that our newest range of puzzle-themed postcards would be focused on the I Spy game! The I Spy Postcard Set contains four different puzzles in fresh pastel hues and adorable illustrations. At the back of each postcard, the speech bubble reveals the hidden motif that you have to find. It is a really simple game that can keep you entertained for a short while! Pretty Paper Pack: Flashy Florals The other new arrival we are super thrilled with is the Pretty Paper Pack! We have always been huge lovers of paper, especially papers with gorgeous colours and textures. One of our favourite activity is to go into a paper store or a stationery store and just get lost in all the pretty. This obsession with paper led to the creation of Pretty Papers! Pretty Paper Pack: Mellow Motifs Pretty Papers are basically multi-purpose papers that can be used for anything and everything. The papers are double-sided so you essentially get 8 different designs in a pack. There are a ton of ways to use paper. If you are hoping to get into some craft projects and need some inspiration, just keep reading our blog! We will be posting various easy tutorials on how to use Pretty Papers (or any kind of paper actually) in the weeks to come, so stay tuned for that! We have also released two new art prints in our store. Click on the images or the links below to go straight to the product pages to find out more about the new art prints! - I hope you are as excited about our new products as we are! Tell us what you would like to see next and we may just get started on it (: <3 Jia Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually. Happy May Day, or Labour Day! Eeks! It's already the fifth month of 2016? Where did all the time go? As mentioned in our last Sunday Stickies, we were determined to have a slower week as April was just so exhausting. This week, we decided that we have had it with back aches, shoulder aches and neck aches so we went for a session of Tui Na massage. It wasn't Jia's first time, so she was prepared for what's to come. On the other hand, Min was extremely skeptical. Our bodies were probably stocked with a lifetime's worth of toxins and knots caused by bad postures because we kinda died during the massage. It really shouldn't be called a massage since it was such a back-breaking experience. And just like that, we endured 90 minutes of pure pain and torture. After the massage, we drew the curtains, stared at each other and laughed. We looked totally hideous with our crazy messy hair. The pain was not over yet though as complete soreness came over us the next day. Min went hysterical and insisted that there were bruises all over her back, like as though Street Fighter Ryu had hadouken her back continuously. It is now Sunday, and truth be told, we feel so good. All sorts of soreness and aches are gone for now, and we feel much taller. Those with constant back aches and whatever aches, you may want to consider going for a session or two. It works! :D The relatively slower week was great for our wellbeing and now we are ready to rock May! Min: Well... it was a pretty boring week with almost nothing eventful for me on the personal front. I'm glad to have fully recovered without taking medicine or going to the doctor. Yessssssa, just tons of water and rest. Mint water is the best cure. And maybe the crazy Tui Na session really did help to rid excess toxins from my body. Now that the toxins are out, I guess it is time to celebrate with a pack of chips, fries and waffles! Hooray! Speaking of food, I had a major success in the kitchen! I still can't believe that I managed to whip up a beautiful looking tamagoyaki. There was so much excitement going on because I had successfully recreated one of my all time favourite dish! I started giving out the tamagoyaki wedges to everyone in my family in pure zest. Honestly, I cannot remember the taste of the egg now. Was it good? Mmm, not sure. But it sure looked very pretty. Achievement unlocked! Jia: Ahh, I love the decidedly slow week idea. I was feeling totally drained the past month, no thanks to working overtime and sleeping only three to four hours daily. I made up my mind to fix my sleeping schedule this week and after six-ish hours of sleep every night and the insane Tui Na session, I am feeling much better! Now I just need to try to get eight hours of sleep daily and I think all will be good with the world again.
Just the other day, I was thinking to myself that despite the advanced mobility of telecommunication and the widespread use of social media, meaningful communication amongst humans are still severely lacking. If we could all speak honestly and openly with tact and wisdom with each other, I am pretty sure relationships will grow stronger and work processes more efficient. So, in the month of May, let us try to share our thoughts purposefully and effectively with the aim of nurturing relationships, shall we? - As usual, at the start of the new month, we love to round-up the links of all the Sunday Stickies posts of the previous month. This makes it easier for you to find a post that you missed out on! April 2016's Sunday Stickies: 3 April // 10 April // 17 April // 25 April - What do you have planned for May? Are you excited for the new month ahead? With Love, Min+Jia. |
