The last Eat post was way back in November and I can't believe it has been 8 months since! Eat is one of Jia's and my favourite blog categories as we have many easy and delicious food recipes to share. Cooking can be real simple and I believe that everyone can cook. Just be sure to get the necessary ingredients beforehand and plan your steps to avoid overcooking or burning your food. Remember that safety in the kitchen is important! Pizza toast is our childhood favourite meal/snack and our go-to comfort food. It is extremely easy to put together and the whole family can get involved. For me, creating a pizza toast meant that I get to assemble my own meal and I get to put as much ingredients as I want on my pizza. This made meal times more interesting and it was fun for the entire family. Strangely enough, my parents' pizza toasts always ends up tasting much better than mine. Mmm, writing this post is making me hungry... The Ultimate Throwback Childhood Pizza Toast Recipe by our mothers Serves 1 Prep time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 15 - 20 minutes Ingredients: A slice of white bread 1tbs tomato paste 1 slice of honey baked ham 1 slice of canned pineapple, cut into chunks (optional) 2 medium-sized button mushrooms (fresh or canned), julienned A whole lot of cheese (a mixture of Mozzarella, Cheddar and Parmesan) - Almost Meat Lover's Special Pizza Toast Recipe by Jia Serves 1 Prep time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 15 - 20 minutes Ingredients: A slice of junior fine grain wholemeal bread 1tbs tomato paste Half a chorizo sausage, cut into chunks Half slice of roasted turkey ham, roughly torn apart 2 medium-sized button mushrooms (fresh or canned), julienned A lot of cheese (a mixture of Mozzarella, Cheddar and Parmesan) - Last Night's Leftovers Pizza Toast Recipe by Min Serves 1 Prep time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 15 - 20 minutes Ingredients: A slice of junior fine grain wholemeal bread 1tbs tomato paste Leftover meat (roast chicken, beef, and/or pork), shredded 1tbs corn (fresh or canned) Fresh basil A lot of cheese (a mixture of Mozzarella, Cheddar and Parmesan) Instructions: All you need to do is to spread an even layer of tomato paste onto the bread, layer on the ingredients, top it off with a lot of cheese and pop the pizza toast into a hot oven or toaster oven. If you are using an oven, preheat the oven to 200 degree celcius before placing the pizza toast in. Min’s tip no. 1: Use a toaster oven instead of a conventional oven
I personally think the pizza toast taste better when cooked in a toaster oven! The bread is crisp and cheese is well toasted and oozy. A toaster oven heats up faster than a conventional oven so that means your lunch will be ready in no time! Min’s tip no. 2: Anything goes Jia loves her pizza toast with chorizo, salami or pepperoni and tons of cheese, while I like mine with a 20:80 meat and veggie ratio. I usually top mine with chicken breast, red onion, corn, spinach, arugula or avocado slices, and a heap of cheese. I would love to have an egg on my pizza toast but bread slices are pretty small these days. Basically, the sky is your limit when it comes to this recipe. You only add what you love as pizza toppings - nothing else. Min’s tip no. 3: Choose your bread wisely I find that this recipe works better with a thicker slice of bread because it holds the ingredients much better than a thin slice. If you are not a fan of bread, feel free to change it up. Tortillas, pitas or breakfast muffins should work really well here! Min’s tip no. 4: Sauce base I like a well toasted pizza toast, so I tend to choose tomato paste over pasta sauce as the sauce base. A pizza toast needs to be crisp and never soggy! Unlike me, Jia likes her pizza toast to be flavoured with the mushrooms, onions, garlic, and herbs found in pasta sauces. Well, it really depends on your eating preferences! - What is your favourite food item from your childhood? Does pizza toast bring back childhood memories for you too? Share your recipes with me! It is summer time for most countries in the world and in Singapore, every day is a summer day. It is hot all year round. Living near the equator means we get tons of sunshine and rain, with temperatures ranging from 27 degree celsius to a steaming 34 degree celsius on extreme days. Global warming is real and we are feeling it! I need a glass of lemonade now! Last summer, I did a Hot Hue post on Sunshine Yellow and this summer is no different. I am attracted to everything yellow all over again! It could be the intense heat that is drawing my attention to yellow. Buttercup is a lovely shade of yellow though it is no where as loud as sunshine yellow. Don't you just love how sweet sounding the name is? Also, buttercup is one of this year's Pantone colours! I wish I was by the pool now, with a Piña Colada in one hand and a book in the other. Ahh... that sounds like a fantastic life! 1 // Isota Piccola Wristlet I am not a fan of wristlets but this just stole my heart! If you are not crazy about yellow, there are many other colours to choose from. The all white bag is absolutely gorgeous too! If you're a fan of having matchy items in your handbag, you'll be pleased to know that this wristlet comes with a matching hobo bag! 2 // Parmesan Garlic Grilled Corn Corn is my all time favourite vegetable/fruit and I can't get enough of it. This dish sounds extremely decadent on a hot sunny day and all I want to do now is to sink my teeth into it. Grated parmesan, crushed garlic, juicy corn on the cob fresh off the grill. Not forgetting a generous squeeze of lime. Mmm, my kitchen will smell so good! 3 // Something Bleu Bow-Topped Slingback Heels Slingback heels are an absolute delight to my feet because I find them so comfortable! I have awkward feet and slingbacks are my go-to heels. This pair of heels is so popular that all sizes have been completely wiped out. Someone, please bring them back to the store for me! 4 // Loewe Elephant Purse This may be a men's purse but I can't get over how cute it is! Just look at the elephant's beady eyes! Looking at this purse reminds me of towel origamis that I often see at hotels and resorts. I am pretty sure this will be a cute addition to any quirky purse collection! 5 // Vintage Salt and Pepper Shakers
I have a friend who collects salt and pepper shakers, so I am always on the lookout for cute and creative shakers for her. This pair of shakers will definitely add a pop of colour and sunshine to any dining table, and I just love the details on the shakers! Look at the juicy pulp! 6 // Pineapple Cup Craft When the heat is melting away every bit of my sanity, all I want is an ice cold drink. Preferably served in a nice looking cup/glass/mug. This cup craft is so easy to put together and I feel refreshed just by looking at it! I am going to hunt for yellow paper cups now. 7 // Blue Wooden Table and a Bowl Lemons This is supposed to be a recipe for Lemon Fritter-sticks and Nutmeg Pudding, but I just can't stop staring at the colours in this picture. I'm loving the colour contrast between the dark blue table top and bright lemons. What a simple and stunning shot! 8 // Hand Painted Yellow Poppy Scarf Shawls and scarfs are perfect for Singapore's climate. Sometimes it gets too chilly after a heavy rain, and often, it gets too hot. I like scarfs because it adds depth to my outfits and keeps me warm or cool, depending on how I wrap it around my neck. I especially love how cheery the yellow is on this scarf! - How will you add a pop of buttercup and sunshine to your life? :) x Min (All images taken from the product sources. Links provided in the description.) Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually. We love public holidays! Any day away from work is a good day because we can finally rest, catch up with life, and spend time with the people we love. It has been a short work week and with a public holiday in the middle of the week, things were moving at snail pace in the office. Perhaps this is the exact reason for 5 work days and 2 rest days in a week. We feel that too many rest days in a week can result in real sluggishness and unproductiveness! The public holiday was well spent in our opinion. Min went for a long walk at the park with her parents followed by a Hari Raya dinner hosted by a close Malay family friend while Jia went for a long overdue movie date. And all is good with a little rest! Our weekends are slowly filling up with Art Markets and events in July and August and we really are very thankful for rest days whenever, wherever! Phew! To our friends and readers celebrating the holiday, Selamat Hari Raya! :D Min: Quality time is my love language and I usually demand a lot from the people I love. Spending time with my parents over long dinners and long walks in the park makes me feel extremely cherished and loved. I love it when we talk and I love it when we don't talk - and that is the introverted side of me talking. Just being together makes me feel safe! With life passing by us so quickly, I somehow wish time will slow down for me to soak up everything. My boyfriend travels a lot for work and though we see each other pretty often, sometimes I feel like we don't talk that much. It's puzzling. I get upset when he is glued to his phone or laptop when we are together. Such a waste of good quality time! Undivided quality time is important to me when we dine together but I can't help but to admit that it's hard to detach from our work commitments. Boo. I hope we'll work on improving the quality of our time spent together and slowly improving the quality of our conversations! Jia: I have a love-hate relationship with public holidays falling on a Wednesday. Obviously, more love than hate, and not hate hate per se. It is more like a slight dislike. Having a Wednesday off makes Thursday feel like a Monday; my week feels like it restarted in double time. I always get thrown off and confused, with the need to perpetually glance at the calendar to remember what day it is.
But woohoo, for shorter work weeks and a midweek date! Being my own boss makes dating a little tricky as my schedule is always filled with work events (even on weekends) and I am usually too tired to do anything remotely exciting. My midweek movie date with the boyfriend was a long time coming and a wonderful respite from work work work. Cue heart eyes! - How was your week? Tell us about it! With Love, Min+Jia. The new releases in July centers around the lost art of writing. In this day and age, we are always texting or emailing each other. It sure is a lot more convenient but nothing beats receiving a handwritten note from a loved one! Min and I love writing to the ones we love and we love having stationery options to make the process of writing more fun and personal. We are so proud to finally release a new postcard set and single greeting cards! We have been working on these for a substantial amount of time and they are finally stocked in our online store as of today. First up, the Faith Postcard Set. Postcards are such a nostalgic reminder of our teen years as we would often collect free postcards and write to our friends daily. In fact, we still collect postcards and have our own individual stashes hidden in our homes! The Faith Postcard Set was created specifically to encourage. The words on the postcards never fail to comfort and strengthen us, thus we inserted them into our designs hoping that they will in turn serve as a timely reminder to someone in need. We hope that these postcards will encourage you and that you will use them to encourage the people in your life as well! A highlight of this series is the little prayer speech bubble that you can find at the back of the postcards. These prayer bubbles were included as an active reminder for you to keep the people you are writing to in your prayers and to let them know that you are praying for them. You don't have to pen down an entire prayer - the space is too small anyway - but you could write down one or two areas that you would be praying for, e.g. guidance or assurance in their lives. Prayer is powerful! Ever since we expanded our product line to include postcards and greeting cards, we have always been bombarded with this one question, "Can I just buy one card?". Be it online via our contact form, email, our social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook) and conversations on our Carousell store or in person during our pop-up events, this question never fails to pop up. So yes, we heard you loud and clear! By popular demand, we are so happy to finally launch a range of single greeting cards! The range is permanent but the designs are of limited quantity. New designs will be introduced very often to keep this collection fresh and buzzing. Here are the first four greeting cards that are already available online: Thank You, Little Things, Cherished, and New Beginnings. All greeting cards are single-sided and comes with white envelopes and confetti stickers. Being a design studio and paper-obsessive fans, we took a very long time to decide on the paper type for the greeting cards. We combed through all our paper supplies and printed samples on so many different types of paper before finally deciding on a gorgeous 100% recycled matte paper with a lovely weight of 280g/m2. This paper is different from the recycled matte paper we are currently using for all our postcards and we love it so much! We hope that you would be able to feel and see the difference!
To all our customers who have been waiting to purchase single greeting cards from us: thank you for waiting and also for giving us your feedback! We love to have conversations with our customers and we truly value all feedback as it helps us improve and develop our products. We will always try our best to meet your demands and needs! - Do you like the new postcards and greeting cards? What other stationery items would you like us to work on? Do let us know! <3 Jia. Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually. The week started off taxingly humid and hot which made us really sluggish in the studio. Along with frustrating meetings with our suppliers and some clients, you could say that we were having pretty meh work days. It was fast becoming one of those bad weeks where we just wanted to hibernate and drop our productivity level to zero. But! That would not do! So, in order to jolt some energy and positivity into our crappy mood, we made an impromptu trip across the border to hit up our favourite Korean restaurant for our beloved Naeng Myeon (Korean cold noodles) and grilled beef. Ah, that mid-week quickie day trip totally lifted up our spirits and we raced through the rest of the week feeling much better! Whee! Thank you to all our new friends that we made over the weekend for The Local People x Shine Festival 2016 art market! Even though it was super warm, we had a great time and were so thrilled with the response of our new products. Yes, we have a bunch of new goodies that we have yet to launch online in our store. Keep your eyes peeled this week for new arrivals to come your way! Min: After a series of frustrating meetings that wasted almost an entire good working day, Jia and I decided that we should treat ourselves to a tasty and comforting junk food lunch at 3.30pm. We got to McDonalds to find that they were promoting a new set meal! In all excitement, I went ahead and ordered a salted egg chicken burger, salt and pepper curly fries and banana pie. And.... it wasn't all that comforting. The taste could be better but nevertheless, I love Macs and I am contented to have junk food in my stomach. Anytime, any day. With less than six months to the wedding, my boyfriend and I have started our readings for pre-marriage counselling. I did not expect so much readings and the fact that we both had to take an individual quiz to sort out our differences in family background, upbringing, personality, love language, expectations, and future plans. Woah, growing up is tough and having a successful marriage is as tough as it gets. I can do this! Jia: Heat rash alert! Having finicky skin is so annoying as just the little bit of aggravation sets off long durations of itchiness and inflammation. With the weather being so relentlessly hot during the week, I often had wistful daydreams of submerging myself into an ice cold tub of aloe vera and just chilling for hours. If you ever felt the same way, I think you would totally appreciate the freebie wallpaper designs we launched not too long ago!
Now that we have officially reached the second half of the year, I am getting more excited about the different activities and events coming my way in both work and personal calendars. Just at the top of my head - I have four weddings to attend, a 10 year anniversary, plenty of birthdays and Christmas to celebrate, a personal project to embark on, and my family vacation to look forward to! I can't wait! - Round-up of June's Sunday Stickies: 5 June // 12 June // 19 June // 26 June - Are you ready for the second half of the year? With Love, Min+Jia. |
