Any day away from work is a good day because we can finally rest, catch up with life, and spend time with the people we love. It has been a short work week and with a public holiday in the middle of the week, things were moving at snail pace in the office. Perhaps this is the exact reason for 5 work days and 2 rest days in a week. We feel that too many rest days in a week can result in real sluggishness and unproductiveness! The public holiday was well spent in our opinion. Min went for a long walk at the park with her parents followed by a Hari Raya dinner hosted by a close Malay family friend while Jia went for a long overdue movie date. And all is good with a little rest! Our weekends are slowly filling up with Art Markets and events in July and August and we really are very thankful for rest days whenever, wherever! Phew! To our friends and readers celebrating the holiday, Selamat Hari Raya! :D Min: Quality time is my love language and I usually demand a lot from the people I love. Spending time with my parents over long dinners and long walks in the park makes me feel extremely cherished and loved. I love it when we talk and I love it when we don't talk - and that is the introverted side of me talking. Just being together makes me feel safe! With life passing by us so quickly, I somehow wish time will slow down for me to soak up everything. My boyfriend travels a lot for work and though we see each other pretty often, sometimes I feel like we don't talk that much. It's puzzling. I get upset when he is glued to his phone or laptop when we are together. Such a waste of good quality time! Undivided quality time is important to me when we dine together but I can't help but to admit that it's hard to detach from our work commitments. Boo. I hope we'll work on improving the quality of our time spent together and slowly improving the quality of our conversations! Jia: I have a love-hate relationship with public holidays falling on a Wednesday. Obviously, more love than hate, and not hate hate per se. It is more like a slight dislike. Having a Wednesday off makes Thursday feel like a Monday; my week feels like it restarted in double time. I always get thrown off and confused, with the need to perpetually glance at the calendar to remember what day it is.
But woohoo, for shorter work weeks and a midweek date! Being my own boss makes dating a little tricky as my schedule is always filled with work events (even on weekends) and I am usually too tired to do anything remotely exciting. My midweek movie date with the boyfriend was a long time coming and a wonderful respite from work work work. Cue heart eyes! - How was your week? Tell us about it! With Love, Min+Jia.

Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually. The week started off taxingly humid and hot which made us really sluggish in the studio. Along with frustrating meetings with our suppliers and some clients, you could say that we were having pretty meh work days. It was fast becoming one of those bad weeks where we just wanted to hibernate and drop our productivity level to zero. But! That would not do! So, in order to jolt some energy and positivity into our crappy mood, we made an impromptu trip across the border to hit up our favourite Korean restaurant for our beloved Naeng Myeon (Korean cold noodles) and grilled beef. Ah, that mid-week quickie day trip totally lifted up our spirits and we raced through the rest of the week feeling much better! Whee! Thank you to all our new friends that we made over the weekend for The Local People x Shine Festival 2016 art market! Even though it was super warm, we had a great time and were so thrilled with the response of our new products. Yes, we have a bunch of new goodies that we have yet to launch online in our store. Keep your eyes peeled this week for new arrivals to come your way! Min: After a series of frustrating meetings that wasted almost an entire good working day, Jia and I decided that we should treat ourselves to a tasty and comforting junk food lunch at 3.30pm. We got to McDonalds to find that they were promoting a new set meal! In all excitement, I went ahead and ordered a salted egg chicken burger, salt and pepper curly fries and banana pie. And.... it wasn't all that comforting. The taste could be better but nevertheless, I love Macs and I am contented to have junk food in my stomach. Anytime, any day. With less than six months to the wedding, my boyfriend and I have started our readings for pre-marriage counselling. I did not expect so much readings and the fact that we both had to take an individual quiz to sort out our differences in family background, upbringing, personality, love language, expectations, and future plans. Woah, growing up is tough and having a successful marriage is as tough as it gets. I can do this! Jia: Heat rash alert! Having finicky skin is so annoying as just the little bit of aggravation sets off long durations of itchiness and inflammation. With the weather being so relentlessly hot during the week, I often had wistful daydreams of submerging myself into an ice cold tub of aloe vera and just chilling for hours. If you ever felt the same way, I think you would totally appreciate the freebie wallpaper designs we launched not too long ago!
Now that we have officially reached the second half of the year, I am getting more excited about the different activities and events coming my way in both work and personal calendars. Just at the top of my head - I have four weddings to attend, a 10 year anniversary, plenty of birthdays and Christmas to celebrate, a personal project to embark on, and my family vacation to look forward to! I can't wait! - Round-up of June's Sunday Stickies: 5 June // 12 June // 19 June // 26 June - Are you ready for the second half of the year? With Love, Min+Jia. Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually. We decided to take things slow in the office this week before the whirlwind of activities hit us in July. A little rest can go a long, long way. We feel that it is important to add in pockets of rest in our busy schedule to ensure we don't burn out in the long run. Currently, July is looking very busy in comparison to the first half of the year and we are excited to participate in art markets after a month of hiatus. Do keep a lookout for our next few pop-up events! Singapore's weather has been real good for the past couple of days and we are hoping the cool weather will stay with us for a while more. Cool weather makes everything better, right? Because of the nice weather, we opened the windows for fresh cool air more often this week and we caught a stunning sunset on Thursday! What a beautiful end to a rather slow working day! Min: My love for junk food is real and this is my confession. We have two containers of salted egg chips and fish skin in the office and I can't stop looking at it. While happiness is a bowl of tasty and hearty salad, true happiness also comes in the form of chips. This is my kind of balance in life. I am a true-blue snacker and I have tried replacing my snack box with blueberries, nuts, and granola but that didn't stop me from binging on unhealthy snacks. My other crazy junk food addiction is instant noodles. I have to actively walk away from the instant noodle aisle in a grocery store. Whenever my neighbours cook instant noodles, my brain, nose, and stomach goes crazy. Trust me, when I say I have to fight my cravings. I love the idea of having a good salad for lunch because it seems to curb my unhealthy salt cravings. I think it is all in my mind. I can do this! Jia: Whoop, it has been an exciting week for me in both good and bad ways. My days were carried by an undercurrent of drowsiness due to staying up till the wee hours of the morning for the UEFA Euro matches. Yes, along with my boyfriend, we belong to the clique of crazy people who stays up to watch the live football matches at midnight and 3am in the morning. My sleepiness also emphasised the fact that my heydays of being able to function properly without sleep is pretty much over. I am getting old. Face the truth, Jia!
The lack of sleep is also disrupting the recovery of my facial skin which, due to negligence, is currently going insane. Allergies are the worst, especially those that are self-inflicted. What am I allergic to? Tea tree oil. I was so determined to try my sister’s newest tea tree oil facial wash that I convinced myself that a few seconds of contact with it wouldn’t affect me. NOPE. How bad was my allergic reaction? Let’s just say that my sister is convinced that my skin is scarred for life and Min has her hawk eye on me to ensure that I don’t scratch my face. Yikes. - How was your week? :) With Love, Min+Jia. Sunday Stickies is a column where we reflect on the past week and pen those thoughts down on sticky pads. Expect notes to ourselves and others, advice, reminders for the week ahead, quotes, and anything random actually. Happy Father's Day, pops! We love you for being the first macho man of our lives! And... we are on a roll. This has been another successful and productive week for us. We decided that we both needed to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. And just like that, we packed our bags and went away to somewhere quiet to plan for the second half of 2016. The second half of the year always excites us greatly because Christmas is part of the plan. Woohoo, we can't wait for Christmas already! We are thankful for this opportunity to rest, relax, plan and brainstorm without much distractions from the outside world. As a result, we were extremely productive and we accomplished a lot within 3 days. Thank God for the many ideas that He had given us, and we can't wait to get started on our new plans! We can do this. Let's go! Min: Thanks to Jia, I finally took the plunge and went to a dog adoption drive today. I have been on an emotional roller coaster ride for some time now because I am not sure if I am ready for a new dog. But I really want a doggy companion. Sigh, indecisiveness always get the better of me. When I got to the adoption drive, I was greeted with the familiar scent of freshly shampooed dogs, happy tails and wide doggy grins. I was in a doggy wonderland. I love Mongrels and I absolutely adore black dogs. My beloved Junior was a black Mongrel and he had the best doggy temperament ever. I will never understand why people would shun black dogs or stray dogs even. A black dog/Mongrel is just like any other dog; loyal, faithful and the best damn thing in the world. My heart aches for black dogs and Mongrels that get left behind in dog shelters just because of their colour and breed. If I could, I would save them all and we would all live happily ever after. Would you give one of these dogs a chance to be your best friend? :') Jia: This week was a strange one. It felt really tiring and relaxing at the same time with a whole lot of activities going on throughout the seven days. From our brainstorming sessions and retreat for work to indulging in awesome food and beer to waking up at unearthly hours for UEFA Euro matches combined with a whole lot of going-out, I am very pooped but in great spirits!
Right at this instance while I am typing this, I am still dying from cuteness overload. Min and I (along with our boyfriends) dropped by an adoption drive and it was adorable doggies galore! We were individually drawn to different dogs and spent a good amount of our Sunday afternoon just patting and staring at them with heart-shaped eyes. I strongly believe in adopting and I really hope SOSD will contact Min soon with adoption details! I can’t wait to have doggie cuddles with Min’s new love. - Have a happy week ahead! There is nothing better than working in a space that is spanking clean, neat, and orderly. Frustrated with the accumulating mess and overjoyed with the fact that our shipment of furniture had finally reached our studio, we started work at the insane hour of 6am on Thursday to dive headfirst into a packing frenzy. A little more than four hours later, along with cartons and cartons of rubbish, we finally had a clean and organised studio space again! Phew, we are so in love with it and we hope that this state of neatness will last for a very long time. It must be the conducive space working its magic but we had a super productive week filled with fresh ideas, completion of projects, and positive client meetings. It is going to be a hectic end half of the year for us as we start to accept bigger responsibilities and larger-scaled projects, all while juggling more events and a wider retail product line. Ahhhh, we are a little nervous and a whole lot of excited. Wish us all the best, yeah? Min: Woah. Just when the post-Africa-full-body-rash is healing nicely, my face decided to go crazy on me. My skin was so irritated after a facial appointment on Monday and for some strange reason, I decided that slapping my face would make it feel better. So slapping and scratching I did. In a couple of minutes, my face was completely red, blotchy and bumpy. Thankfully, Jia's idea of patting my face with a cold towel worked almost immediately. The irritation stopped after some anti-histamine and Jia's cold towel therapy. Sigh. When will my skin ever look good? Going vegetarian for lunch for the rest of the year could really work out for us as we make a joint and conscious effort to eat better and healthier. Perhaps our bodies will really thank us for eating right by giving us radiant and clear skin. Or perhaps, it's time for a full detox. Shall we do it next week Jia? Jia: I am not fluent in Mandarin at all. I am terrible at reading and writing it, which is why I have shied away from Taobao for the longest time. Even when my friends were gushing about how cheap everything was, I was doubtful and hesitant. I tried looking through the website once and all I got from it was a massive headache. However, as always, things change.
My always fabulous and effectively bilingual partner, Min decided to take the plunge to order some stuff from Taobao a few months ago and holy cow, was it a pretty awesome decision. After learning that a couple of our friends had furnished their entire homes with Taobao with great results, we ordered some drawers and cabinets for our studio. The furniture came in this week. Let's just say that I am a convert. Where can I sign up for a lifetime membership? Or rather, where can Min sign me up for a lifetime membership? - Tell us - how was your week? With Love, Min+Jia. |
