Hi, my name is Min and I think I am slightly obsessed with food. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved food. My closer circle of friends know that nothing excites me more than thinking and planning my next meals. Please don’t judge me or my life goals. You see, my grumpiness and grouchiness often stems from the fact that I have yet to have my basic needs met. I hate it when I am either starving or sleepy. I won't hide the fact that I once drove my colleagues up the wall when I did a juice cleanse. They hatched a plan to replace all my green juice bottles with fries, chips and rice in hopes of getting rid of the hangry - hungry and angry - monster in me. I often wonder what will become of me if I lose the ability to eat or lose all access to food. Jia can testify that I used to carry a small container of Honey Stars cereal in my bag. I need a backup plan cause being hungry is never, ever part of the plan. And just to make sure that we are clear on food insecurities, I have a head of fresh broccoli in my bag as I write this post… Well, it brings much needed comfort to know that I have free access to food whenever I need it. Yes, I am obsessed with food and this is why November's favourite pins are dedicated to food. Because, why not? Food makes the world go round! Pun intended. Onsen Tamago with Rice Min: Oh, what I would give to indulge in a bowl of rice right now. I often say I can easily eat several bowls of rice. And now, I am ashamed to admit that I am not sure I can actually eat it without allowing the guilt to get to me before the fat rolls grows on me. What did rice do to deserve so much hate from the world of strict diets? Surely a bowl of rice can’t cause that much harm right? My dad loves rice and he often pairs white rice with a drizzle of dark soy sauce and top off the salty goodness with a perfectly fried egg. Yum! So, as a huge fan of rice, I say we eat rice for every meal. After all, rice is life. Mushroom Gnocchi with Arugula and Walnut Pesto Min: I may not be a big fan of potatoes but gnocchi has clearly charmed my tastebuds. One of my biggest culinary dream, other than to bake bread, is to make gnocchi, pasta and noodles. Rationally speaking, I don’t think that this dream is overly ambitious for a self-declared home cook like me but yet, it takes quite a bit of courage to actually try it out. I love the idea of creating my own food - from growing vegetables and herbs to making noodles. Sometimes, slowing down can do a lot of good for this fast pace world. So up next, homemade gnocchi! Soba with Roasted Broccoli Min: Yes, it’s true. This is yet another dish that I can eat daily. I am definitely not kidding about my food obsession. If I were to line up the dishes I said I can eat on a daily basis, the food line may just be enough to circle the earth twice. Soba and broccoli is another weakness of mine, and even more so when it is paired with sautéed mushrooms. I can’t say no to a bowl of cold soba, let alone a bowl of soba and broccoli salad. It’s nearly impossible to finish this blog post without hearing the rumbles and grumbles of my empty stomach. Cheesy Pull Apart Pesto Bread Jia: I have been watching way too many recipe videos recently on how to make yummy pull apart breads. These videos make the process look so simple and as such, I have been utterly hooked and convinced that I too, can put together a scrumptious pull apart bread! This cheesy pull apart pesto bread had my heart immediately because of two reasons: cheese and pesto. I can't wait for my oven to be fixed so that I can try this out. Grilled Salmon with Avocado Greek Salsa and Orzo Jia: As I am now eating way too much heavy Korean food every meal every day - I am currently on vacation with my family - all I really want is a clean meal. This is right up my alley as I have been craving for avocado since a couple of weeks ago and it looks so delicious with the grilled salmon and orzo. I'm not the best at grilling fish so I would love for someone to cook this for me right now! Arugula Salad with Parmesan, Lemon, and Olive Oil
Jia: Something else that I am badly craving for is this salad. It's so simple but I know how it tastes and I want it now! Arugula is one of my favourite salad vegetables and its complex flavours are further enhanced with an easy pairing of Parmesan, lemon and olive oil. This salad tastes so fresh and phenomenal, and is exactly what I need after days of kimchi and thick stews/soups. I need some clean in my system pronto. - What is one food item or dish you simply can or cannot live without? Let me know, so I don’t feel so much like an alien in this crazy world of diets! x Min
